Superman | Kemco (First Star Software) | 1987 | You are Superman. Wherever there's trouble in the great city of Metropolis, Superman soars into action. The incredible hero from the doomed planet Krypton fights a never-ending battle against all manner of evil men and monsters who threaten our world's safety and security. Now you can become the man of steel and crusade against crime and injustice. Enter the phone booth as Clark Kent, reporter for the Daily Planet, and emerge as Superman. Use an awesome array of super-powers, including flight, heat vision and super-breath to foil the plans of an army of villains. You'll face racketeers, robots and arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. Finding the Power Crystal increases your otherworldy abilities but, look out---don't mistake it for deadly Kryptonite.***"Superman" is some sort of open-worldish Beat'em Up / platform mix with embedded in a mission-based story. While the concept is interesting, the gameplay itself lacks good playability. Although you have some super powers at your disposal, you have to punch most enemies with your fists and the collision detection doesn't work well in that part. The fact that every person and especially Superman himself comes as a super-deformed character is quite... strange and does not fit. Technically the games is average at best. The city is represented quite well, but the backgrounds etc. could use some more detail. All in all its not as bad as some people regard this title. | labelimagesubject |
Batman: The Video Game | Sunsoft | 1989 | *** [36]*** [30]*** [70]*** [17]*** [62]***He's totally new. Totally tough. And he'll stop at nothing to make sure justice prevails! From the dark streets of GOTHAM CITY to the deepest corners of the criminal underworld comes the CAPED CRUSADER as you've never seen him before. Incredibly strong. Armed to the teeth. And ready to put his life on the line for the sake of all, on a search-and-destroy mission to end the Joker's reign of terror. He leaps, he flies, he dodges enemy fire and delivers it right back... with a vengeance. This is no kid stuff. This is as real as video gaming gets. If you liked what you saw in the movie, you're gonna love what you see here. Because this time around, BATMAN is all business, and he won't let anything stand in his way!*** [66]*** [64]*** [63]*** [52]*** [37]*** [27]***NES-B4-? released December 22, 1989 in Japan NES-B4-USA released February 1990 in the United States NES-B4- released September 14, 1990 in European regions 1 player only. Corresponding to the 1989 Batman film (staring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger, directed by Tim Burton); It vaguely references the movie, having the same main characters, locations, and the threat of the Joker distributing toxic nerve gas. It is 5 levels of super hero beatings and utility belt mayhem. The game is notable for Batman's ability to wall kick, an uncommon action in platformers of the day. [Zerothis] | labelimagesubject |
